This past December, 2017Next Fashion Design College organized the first ever award for successful designers in the country for their great contribution towards Ethiopian Fashion. Next Design as a pioneer in the industry, strives to support student’s creativity and give them a platform to celebrate their work. The annual fashion forward, the name itself represents people that are trendy in fashion, creative, advanced and innovative in fashion. The AFFA award is given to designers who have lived up to those expectations. The AFFA award is the first of its kind, first time designers in Ethiopia received recognition for their work. Next Fashion Design College chose to be the first to give recognition to the top 15 women designers, as we are the first private fashion college that was established in Ethiopia. The college felt that it is our responsibility to encourage and motivate accomplished designers as well as up and coming designers in our country. The main message behind the award is to empower women of all generations that success is possible and that they can become self-sustaining citizens regardless of their economic background.
The students fashion competition is also an annual tradition of Next fashion design college to encourage and motivate the students since the establishment of the college. The competition offers the top three students a full scholarship opportunity to India for three months in a course of their choosing with regards to fashion. This scholarship opportunity is granted to our institution due to our strong relationship we have built over the years with the Indian embassy. For the students who receive the scholarship, it has been a life changing experience and they have gained a lot of knowledge in the field of fashion, graphic design and entrepreneurship skills.
